Is it a huge security risk to diable UAC in Windows 7? by Mischief Maker 02/01/2012, 10:36am PST
I'm still going to be running many older games that have compatibility problems with UAC on my new Windows 7 rig. According to an article I just read, the main purpose of UAC is if a virus manages to pierce your firewall, Spybot, and Antivirus, it won't be able to fuck with your OS. Your personal files will still be at risk. It also protects against incompetent users breaking the OS.

Being a decently comptetent user, and perfectly willing to do a fresh install of windows when the going gets rough, UAC sounds like more of a pain in the ass than its worth. I'm going to be rolling with NOD32 antivirus, Spybot, and the Windows firewall. Is there some bigger scarier risk I'm unaware of that disabling UAC would put me at risk for?
