MW4
- Weapon "hardpoints" rule added to prevent mech loadouts that don't look like they belong on the mech's model
- Seems like the only kinds of mechs FASA is able to come up with itself are barely-humanoid boxy bodies on gooney-bird legs.
I'm probably the only person on the PLANET who thinks this, but I like the overgrown semi truck look of the MW4 mechs. Of course, I haven't played MW2 (although my new thing is reviewing games without playing them), and I can't say I know what the mechs in MW2 look like, especially after playing so much MW4. I like the giant walking weapons platforms of MW4 though, that look like someone put some legs on a tank or overgrown turret. The earlier mechs are probably supposed to resemble people and do incredibly gay ass shit like hold swords or some faggot shit. You hold a sword while I melt it down in your robohand with a flurry of PPCs and inner sphere large lasers. FAGGOT. I think besides the wolfhound and maybe the nova cat, the only one that looks like a giant mech person is the atlas, which is sort of the crazy novelty mech since it's 100 tons. And then in some ironic I dunno what, the daishi, apparently a Kurita (Japanese) design in the futuristic future, is basically a giant box with bird legs. But I like that.
I also like the new 100 tonner they added in MW4 Mercs with the giant TITTIES ultra gauss rifles on its chest.
Another thing I really liked about Mercs was on my first play, I started off with the dinkiest shit mechs in any MW4 game or expansion. I was personally dinking around in a Flea, which is like 25 tons. I never saw anything like that before. All it had was like one machine gun and some kind of laser or something. Lancemates had similar crap. But I thought it was cool because I could really start small doing security missions or hold off some dinky hovercrafts, which is like showing how any mech can have a use. Maybe if they held off on some of the non stop mech-to-mech wars that always show up in these games.
Also, having a hub area would've been cool, where you hang around some friendly base on a planet, and then go off to do a mission in some nearby forest or lake or whatever the fuck. Sort of like the Xbox Crimson Skies game, except you can step on people. Then go back to the base and have them put some new shit in your mech. Maybe find more ways to personalize it and upgrade so you aren't throwing away mechs every other mission. But the mechs always come down to how many more tons one has than the other, and I'd rather take a 45 ton mech than a 40 ton mech any day.
Just some thoughts. I miss playing MW4 Mercenaries already. :( |
