Thanks to Nick C. at POE-News I managed to get sound going (through the shadiest-possible means of activating the AC97 output on my mobo and then sending a lead from that to my mixer back into my regular soundcard.) The game seems pretty cool, but it crashes back to the desktop approximately anytime I hit an important switch. (The elevator downstairs, the bridge, etc.). According to somebody somewhere this is because it saves a bunch of textures in video RAM as you walk through an area, but when you move to a new area it dumps them all and gets a new batch, causing my Radeon 9600 XT to puke me back to the desktop, which is then in 800x600 GrandmaScope. NOT IMMERSIVE.
The planetdoom fags indicated in l33tsp33k that I should download the new "Doom 3" drivers from ATI, and that fixes this problem for a lot of users. THE CATCH: ATI urges you on the download site to stay away from that driver if you use your computer for anything other than Doom 3.
Hmm.
So what I'm looking for here is some peer pressure. Pressure me to get the scary edgy HellDriver or not to get it. |
