After the enemies are all dead, the maziness of the levels does get in the way because of the bland shittiness of the levels. About 1/3rd of the game is a basement of dirty concrete rooms and rusty pipes, and then on into Generic Office Building. I always search everywhere in a level so I don't miss ammo and health (I'm enjoying the liberal placement of medkits on hard) and powerups, and more than once I found myself accidentally walking back towards the beginning of the level because every room looks the same. You don't need to replace mazes with corridors because players are stupid, you just need to put big obvious landmarks in levels so I know where the fuck I'm going and not build everything out of 1 antlion nest concrete texture.
