And now, Republican Presidential Candidate Herman "999" Cain is now getting a third woman who claims he sexually harassed her while at work. Apparently the NRA - that's the National Restaurant Association, not the gun people - paid off two complainants rather than have the issue litigated. But now, we have a separate, third complainant coming forth with her wales of toe. Cain, of course, immediately flashes the Johnny Cochran race card, claiming they're doing this because he's a black conservative. Bullshit, of course; this is happening because he's among the top two contenders to become the Republican nominee. As has been pointed out in a number of places, if he was doing 2% in the polls and/or was 5th or 6th nobody would be bothering him.
Now that basically absent something else happening the race to become top Republican is between him and Willard Mitt Romney, he's getting attacks. The reporter won't admit one way or the other if another campaign is bringing this on but if it was the most likely one - the one who benefits the most from this - could be Rick Perry. But it doesn't matter, once you're the frontrunner or number two, the long knives start coming out.
Also, Cain is trying to make it look like it's a bunch of lies, or doesn't know English, when he refers to this as a smear campaign. A "smear campaign" has at its core, a premise that the issue being raised is false and/or fraudulent. Cain has already admitted that the issue is true and therefore calling it a smear campaign, at a minimum, is disingenuous. (Nice chance to use that word here!)
So now that the party is getting more interesting, it's time to sit back, watch and see what happens. |
