Italy's Prime Minister, Sylvia Berlisconi, has survived a vote-of-no-confidence in the Italian legislature, the 53rd that has been invoked so far. Of the 630 members of the Italian legislature, Berlisconi got the absolute minimum of 316 (1/2 plus one) to keep from being fired. The next election is a bit over 2 1/2 years from now; it is unlikely the Prime Minister will be able to stay in office until then, given the bad state of the Italian economy and the debt crisis the Italian government has gotten itself into.
Berlisconi has a long history of various peccadilloes that anyone else would have ended up in jail; in one case, a guy went to jail for giving Berlisconi a bribe but the Italian Prime Minister escaped going to jail because the legislature passed a law to prevent Berlisconi from serving time. Why Berlisconi was accepting bribes is unclear; from successful business operations, Berlisconi is already a billionaire.
Then there are the sex scandals Berlisconi has been involved in and the number of people with whom Berlisconi reportedly has had sex. Okay, so you might say that a woman like her (especially a rich one) can often use her sex to get away with things.
Well, that wouldn't be exactly correct, as Sylvia Berlisconi is a man.
