I think the human-hollowed framework is a lot more accessible than the live/dead/world tendency mess of the last game, and the core mechanics of outstanding melee have been further refined by the poise stat, which means that all those cool looking heavy armors now make for viable and occasionally necessary parts of your arsenal. I'm not sure that going to a fully contiguous world as opposed to one connected by a Nexus is going to be a huge hit with newcomers, just because remembering where everything is can be a bit daunting, but thanks to the new checkpoint bonfire system it really doesn't matter. They paid attention to how popular NPCs were and made them really useful, up to and including giving you a way to summon them into boss fights so that if you don't care for multiplayer you always have a plan B for a difficult boss.
On that note, the bosses and minibosses are uniformly good with some ranging into spectacular.
You still have the same cost-benefit risk for exploration and for hoarding, but it's all managed in a way that feels less griefy and more player controller. Everyone should get this now that it's on both the xbox and the PS3. |
