PROTIPS:
- Not every asteroid is on a collision course. If one looks like it might sail past harmlessly, it probably will.
- Even if they do impact, each of the tiny, slow-moving asteroids only does about 2% shield damage. You can miss a dozen of them and still finish with >50% shields.
- The big, fast-moving asteroids, on the other hand, will fuck your shit up. Hit them with everything you've got.
- Try to maintain awareness of the entire playfield at once. Don't get so fixated on tracking each individual asteroid that you let a fast-mover slip past, and never under any circumstances allow your barrels to overheat.
- Most importantly, if your shields dip below 50% when you're going for the achievement, let the asteroids finish you off instead of loading your last save - you'll automatically continue from just before you got on the guns.
The original concept meeting for this game must have had "The Thing???" circled in the center of the whiteboard then they just tacked on focus grouped elements from there.
The original concept for this game was, no shit, "System Shock 3". At some point during development, EA realized they only owned the System Shock name, while the IP itself belonged to the insurance company that was left holding the bag when Looking Glass Studios fulfilled its destiny by defaulting on its debts. Hence, Dead Space was born.
Not one single gameplay mechanic is conductive to being scared, not the stasis gun or zero-g or the gravity gun. It feels like they must have gotten the same clueless guy who worked on F.E.A.R and figured bullet time was the ticket.
Man, this game would have been lucky to have the clueless guy who worked on FEAR. I love that guy!
"Hey, we need a big, scary finish to our horror game. And it has to be something that can happen in a warehouse."
"A hundred ghosts fly at you in slow motion while you blast away with akimbo pistols."
"Awesome. You just completely validated my sister's decision to drink while she was pregnant with you."
If that guy worked on Dead Space, we would have gotten exactly what we all wanted: a final boss you kill by running up and frantically stomping its feet off. Instead, we got one you kill by shooting its glowing, centrally-located weak points (what happened to aiming for the limbs?), and for the last two weak points it reverses your controls :( |
