Gran Turismo 3? The only real courses in that were Monaco and Laguna Seca. by Jerry Whorebach 08/27/2011, 11:29am PDT
I suppose "racing sim" is a bit of a misnomer for a game like Gran Turismo (which, despite its emphasis on precise cornering, is not particularly realistic), in the same way that "arcade racer" is for something like Burnout (which, for all its bombast, has never once swallowed a quarter). Regardless, the dichotomy is real, and those are the genre labels in common usage, so by that standard I would most definitely place Gran Turismo 3 deep into "racing sim" territory. It was certainly a better simulation of high-speed driving than any SimCity was of urban planning, even that one SimCity nobody bought because it was too fiddly and depressing.
