The monsters are really just there so you don't move through the content too quickly. The content being miles upon miles of copy pasta caves and dungeons. "Boy that cavern entrance sure looks mysterious and foreboding, I wonder what's inside? I hope it's monsters appropriate to my level standing around containers with items appropriate to my level. I think I'm going to take a screenshot of how much DPS my sword does and e-mail it to grandma, her fucking head will explode."
