| Look at TRS 1/4" cables. The difference between a $1 cable and a $10 cable is huge, gigantic. The difference between a $100 cable and a $200 cable is so tiny it's practically academic. No one can hear the difference, the only justification for spending the extra is that you A: understand the way the things are constructed and the more expensive one is better designed with better materials and B: you've got money to burn and you want to buy the best one.
Guitars are the same way. The difference between a $100 Squier and a $1000 Fender is going to be obvious to anyone who can play. They sound way better, and they play way better. Does a $2500 Fender play so much better than a $1000 Fender that it justifies the price difference? I doubt that very much. You pay out the ass for the last 1%. In fact, I'm betting that in terms of playability and sound, individual copies of the $1k one could by chance turn out better than individual copies of the $2400 one. But the way guitars are marketed gives the game away anyways. The expensive-as-shit models are all named after some shredder guitarist. Do you think a serious guitarist is going to buy an Eric Clapton or - for fucks sake - a Billy Corgan Stratocaster? No. They are 25th wedding anniversary presents. They are midlife crisis guitars. |
