Jhoh Cable: (Or, reality TV discovers "Fiction") To
Jhoh Cable: So this guy forgot he was in a band.
Jhoh Cable: And thought that he was just a guy who loves Linux and programs games.
Jhoh Cable: He even made a wacky animated gif icon.
Jhoh Cable: Which is an animated gif, therefore not TV (since TV is horrible).
Sanitario666: Its important to remember that this guy once made MUSIC VIDEOS for MTV (grrrrr)
Jhoh Cable: So he fought back by writing an angry "rant" on his blog, the end.
Jhoh Cable: That's how nerds fight the system of stupid lowbrow TV, by writing angry blog rants.
Jhoh Cable: Show-thing, Bands Reunited or whatever.
Jhoh Cable: I sense disdain.sdf
Sanitario666: BAND REUNION OR WHATEVER IT'S CALLED (I'm so digusted I refuse to remember (or Google) the correct name of the show)
Jhoh Cable: Someone writing in a LiveJournal forum said something that made me start to understand why I agreed to the interview:
"When one has been in the public spotlight at any time for any amount of time, the old rule is: 'always be camera ready'."
Jhoh Cable: He learned this from LiveJournal, since he's a nerd.
Sanitario666: LiveJournals are a great source of... THOUGHTS.
...
Sanitario666: So I had to explain in great detail: No, really guys, I just don't want to be on TV. I don't like TV, I don't watch TV, I haven't watched TV in about 8 years. And if I were going to be on TV, the LAST thing I'd want to do is a "reality TV" show.
Sanitario666: 8 years. He's timed it.
INC: that's when he made the big decision. No more TV
INC: since then, life has been great
Sanitario666: life has been great, counting the time since TV.
INC: Post TV
INC: This "Band Reunion" (whatever) show felt to me like a sort of final death-twitch of a medium desperately in need of a wake-up call. But let's not give them one. Honestly, I'd prefer they stayed asleep and let us get on with the fun of LiveJournal, Slash-Dot, and StrongBad E-mails.
INC: take that, TV
Sanitario666: He's going to continue not watching TV for more years.
Sanitario666: "I see TV is still bad! Good!"
Sanitario666: I guess that during that conference call, they had gotten the impression that I wanted to get paid. I think I said something like "Taking time off work to drive to LA to do a free show and be on TV so that Viacom Inc. can enhance shareholder value just isn't something I want to do." Somehow, they took that to mean that I was asking for money. So one of them offers to pay me. I pointed out that since I didn't want to do it, my price would be higher than I'm worth, and that when they multiply that by 4, it would just break their budget. The guy points out that he's only extending this offer to ME, and not the other bandmembers. I was STUNNED. Can you BELIEVE that? They thought that I would take money, KNOWING that my bandmates were NOT getting paid. It is unbeLIEVable! This is when I began to feel that they really had no respect for me at all.
INC: he was right to abandon TV
INC: it has no respect for him or his bandmates
Sanitario666: By giving him lots of money.
Sanitario666: Very disrespectful.
INC: publicizing his old albums
