You may be aware of, or have already read, Thomas Starzl's The Puzzle People. He's the liver tx pioneer who started noticing that a tiny fraction of his patients seemed to completely accept the new organ, once enough years had passed for the body to replace all its cells (maybe 7?), and said people or 'chimeras' no longer needed immune suppressants. Anyway, my point is, every tx dude I know who's read that has decided that he is, indeed, one of the rare and wonderful puzzle people and has begged his doc to take him off the drugs. In a couple of cases, they went off the drugs without anyone's fucking permission, thanks very much, because Starzl said it was OK in his book. Result: death. Good read, in other words, but don't ever go off the drugs on your own, or reduce them on your own, or whatever. Shaky hands are not that big a deal, and can make jerking off even more exciting. |
