The first ever computer game released on CD-ROM was a contemporary re-imagining of Alice in Wonderland, called The Manhole. To quote from the description on MobyGames:
Follow Mr. Rabbit down the manhole or up the beanstalk and discover his world of strange places and friends
All the Amateur McGees out there have to realize by now that they're never going to produce a more disturbing vision of this beloved children's classic than the one everybody reading this just pictured in their head. The fact that they're even still trying is a greater testament to the indomitability of the human spirit than that commercial where Christopher Reeve climbed out of his wheelchair and started selling auction rate securities. And just like auction rate securities, the most likely endgame for every one of these projects is a class-action lawsuit on behalf of swindled investors :( |
