The LADIES of caltrops (Zseni and Seme, AFAIK) are hardly cut squarely from the mold of the status quo.

Also, at least one of them isn't a woman.

I do! You're wrong. Everyone gets that particular party line, Zseni. Nobody's funneling girls into writing those types of stories. I would expect each and every Creative Writing teacher on the planet to be screaming inside Oh God won't any of you pretentious little beasts why something different for just fucking once? The results are what's interesting here, and I think boys get technical criticisms because their little action-oriented minds are dreaming up all sorts of (equally awful) stuff. What I'm sayin' is, to use an analogy, the boys are chomping at the bit to take off down the road and get utterly lost while the girls are mulling over which sweater to take, even though it's a trip to a tropical isle. And thus, they get predictable feedback from teachers based off those tendencies.

Chicken vs. egg, round 56,395.

Although it jibes with the behaviors of women in their post-child days, it's unsettling that girls play that way. So, they play with toys that have "Happy" and "Pretty" and assorted (cute) fruits and vegetables in their names, yet drive them to inexorable mental anguish, while boys play with toys with modifiers like "Action" and "Power" and "Mighty" and use them to beat the shit of whatever villian is wack enough to step to them a solid 100% of the time?

Not at all. In the anecdote featured, 100% of Girls Across The Street favor inexorable mental anguish, and 100% of Zsenis favor unfettered joy for everyone.

Not to put too fine a point on it, but neither the spooky girls nor the violent boys were considered anything but normal. However 100% of joy-favoring Zsenis were singled out as dangerous, abnormal, and antisocial. I just couldn't get along with people for some reason! For a long time I fully accepted the idea that this failure to get along was entirely my fault, but now I know all y'all are deeply disturbed and generally bad company for me.

No hot pleasureful dominating buttsex...

*sniff*

I'm still upset about that, too.

Yeah, well, junior high teachers are junior high teachers and not Nobel Laureates for a reason.

I'm sure it's not because they dislike happy things. I get what you're saying, but I think the idea I had still holds: literature is considered uninteresting without conflict of one sort or another.

Well, what's funny to me is that girls are prone to writing their own little Shakespearian tragedies with an eye squarely for the third act, while boys will start theirs in the third act and have a fifth act that totally kicks the third act's ASS that utterly disowns it as a tragedy at all (it's only tragic if it's a horror story - but then, the hero of those is the villian, anyway).

Ironically, it's men who are always going off and assassinating Franz Ferdinand! You little drama queens, with your planes in towers and whatnot.

What's funny to me is that you guys can get together and write a whole play, but you don't get together. You should get together! And be happy! But with women inventing problems they hope can't be solved, and men firing off solutions to problems they don't bother to understand, you're all doomed.
