In other news, I was just taken off Sandimmune (nonmodified cyclosporine) and switched to Gengraf (modified). Because there's an acceptable generic for Gengraf, I can pay nothing through insurance (Sandimmune = $1200/month retail, $50/month w/ copay). I have been on Sandimmune for 21 years. Feels weird to be switching my mainstay life-support drug. Cyclosporine is the only drug I'm now on. My advice to you, Laudable, is to not call your hematologist a faggot. Sometimes they are one, and then you get a puzzled look and the moment turns tense. Sometimes they get mad anyway, because they identify as straight but have a gay friend or something. All in all, not worth it.


My surgeon informed me that the odds of survival are better if you have one rejection episode than if you never have one, and two is better than one. Kidneys, though, each rejection decreases your chances. It's interesting, but I'm not gonna hope for rejection episodes.

So, it turns out it really was the third medication. One doctor here essentially rolled her eyes at the idea that I had even been taking it. "That was designed for leprosy patients." Dunno what that means, and I didn't ask. I prefer people with coughs and sniffles to get the hell out of my room as soon as possible, and she was one of those people.

Anyway, white blood cell count is up, I'll probably be leaving in a couple days. :)
