Why not two eggs, in place of one of those cans? I don't mean that as a nutritional suggestion--rather, I'm asking how you can prefer a second or third can of the same old thing when a nice alternative is available! Also what about milk?
If grams-protein-per-calorie is your metric, why not throw in some soy? Soy nuts beat the heck out of your ravioli in that regard, and taste only moderately less pleasant than peanuts do. You like peanuts right??? http://nutritiondata.self.com/facts/legumes-and-legume-products/4378/2
My metric is quite a bit more complicated than that. I'm trying to consume the maximum amount of solid food possible each day, without exceeding my calorie budget (1500), shortchanging myself on protein (which not only reduces muscle atrophy when combined with exercise, it also imparts a pleasant feeling of fullness), or spending too much money (I've got Christmas presents to buy, not to mention a rather nasty diet soda habit). Rest assured, with the exception of the two cans of tuna, I do not eat the same thing every day! In fact, I find it's often far MORE tolerable to have an all-ravioli day sometimes, or an all-egg-and-carrots day others, than to eat precisely the same pattern day-in, day-out. (The only reason I take such a hard line on the tuna is because I honestly don't know of another food that offers the same qualities for the same price. I mean, cottage cheese is delicious, but it also has a higher calorie ratio and costs twice as much unless there's a sale on - and unlike canned goods, with dairy you can't make one sale last three months.) I'm actually really excited about trying the soy nuts you suggested; if it turns out they're cheap and filling enough, you know they're going directly into the rotation. Thanks! |
