I swear to god something was different in Dead Rising 1 as far as boss health or their speed. The only DR1 psychos I remember restarting on a ton were the butcher and the convicts(who I ended up avoiding). Possibly their stun states were more obvious maybe bullet damage wasn't the mathematically lowest damaging attack(it's nearly as weak as your fists). I don't think anyone went though DR1 one shotting the psychopaths, though the number of reloads and length of fights in DR2 is just astounding.
It is pretty dumb that crafting something (and it IS a crafting system) doesn't give you access to it or something like in a closet. Especially when some of the faster items (knife gloves) are the best possible way to defeat certain psychopaths. It's all terribly inconvenient and compounded by the fact that recipes you already know are rewards for leveling up. Fussbett made a good point to me that more stuff should be craftable even if the results are useless. Broadsword + Dildo = The Obituator(nws)
Further I think the story was less campy and more stupid than DR1. I can dig beef shortage -> outbreak -> terrorism -> new outbreak. Though Dead Rising 2's plot seems contrived and trite in comparison to the admittedly trite original. I guess we can discuss the ending once everyone's finished, because if nothing else it is kind of cute. Also I felt the survivors were more memorable in DR1, where in DR2 the majority are just greedy. |
