What character are you using? Generally the advice is to keep your distance and zone him, and play footsies to keep him out of range. You shouldn't be jumping in at all. Why are you trying to get close to a character that has to grab you to win? You should be forcing him to jump in on you.
When I jump in I try to space it so I hit him in the balls. I try not to land them deep because that's when he grabs my head and shoves it between his legs and slams it into the ground. Mostly, I just want to kick him in the balls.
I play Viper and Ryu primarily. I picked up that low medium kick into haudouken that I sometimes accidentally combo into the super haudouken (how is it even possible to combo a fireball with a fireball) from watching that Daigo guy or whatever play. The problem I think is that my combo knowledge is extremely poor so I get a couple med kick + haudouken combos in and then Zangief makes up the difference with a single spinning piledriver.
Combos aren't your problem here (but they'll be your problem later). I think you're still underestimating what I'm saying by "keep him away from you". Here's Daigo keeping Zangief away from him:
When Zangief starts walking forward, Daigo jumps away a hundred times. How many times did Daigo jump in during the whole match? Once, and the results were terrible. Are you better than Daigo?
I admit I make plenty of noob mistakes like throwing out poorly timed dragon punches that leave me horribly exposed, but sometimes the CPU green hands at the exact moment I press any attack button. It's irritating.
