Granted, less than a week of histrionics and insanity got them to back off on it for now. Still there are some kind of funny articles for the few moments things were going on. A few kotaku idiots tried to put in their two cents. Oddly the article below starts with an old stupid Penny Arcade comic.

Blizzard's decision to force posters on its forums to use their real name isn't exactly going down too well. But is posting on the internet as, well, yourself really all that bad?
I don't think it is. And I should know!
I mean, this is my real name. I've been using it here since I started. Everything I've ever said, ever written down on this site can be attributed not to some mysterious handle or anonymous avatar, but to me.
Before we go any further, yeah, I get paid to do this, which makes me a special case in many respects. Would I still use my real name if I didn't have to? I honestly don't know.
He starts strong, but ruins it all by admitting that his original point was bullshit and being paid to write things under your real name is different than paying to have anything you want to write about Armor Penetration stacking attributed to your real name. All the other articles were "hurr you're free to not use the forum"; then when no one actually used the forum I'm sure there would be some apologist article asking why people cared so much
Here is a penny arcade comic. They play both (equally false) sides of the argument but fail to realize they DIDN'T start a comic under their real names twelve years ago.
The one thing that amazed me about this little phenomenon is people's unwillingness to just say it was wrong because it would be a violation of their privacy, and violating privacy is wrong. It was either some clear and present danger or some attempt to get people to behave. It wasn't just bad in that virtually no one in the community wants it, it was bad in that it's something virtually no one would want ever. |
