Are you talking about in story mode, or in battle mode? I'm only about halfway through story mode, but I found Ice-T pretty tough (one of the earliest characters to really start blocking and countering regularly) and Crazy Legs ridiculously easy, so maybe it depends on your fighting technique? Or does Crazy Legs return at some later point in a Crazier incarnation?
Multiplayer is where I've noticed my friends and I shying away from quite a few guys in favor of others.
I swear the AI has different scripts for each individual fighter. Maybe not, but it seems like Crack will counter almost everything you do. Freeway and David Banner (or is it Bone Crusher? one of the huge fatasses) will always go for a weapon the moment someone in the crowd holds one up - it's like they're happy to give you one free "running grapple" attack, it's so predictable. You're right that Ice-T seems to be one of the more challenging AI fighters if only because everyone before him has seemingly braindead AI when it comes to defense. This might just me dreaming shit up, who knows.
But in multiplayer, everyone quickly learns how to counter the "typical" strike attacks very quickly. The timing is too obvious. Crazy Legs and Dan G's crazier breakdancing attacks have funky timing that takes a while longer to figure out, so when I use them, I notice my opponents give up on reversals and just try to block. That of course leaves them open to grapples. That in turn leaves them open to the avalanche of me throwing them into a wall, me doing the "wall grapple" attack to stun them, me again throwing them in the wall and doing another "wall grapple", which leads to the victim to say something along the lines of "okay maybe five seconds ago I was at full health and now I need someone to please reattach what remains of my head".
It's a lot like "ticking" in the original Street Fighter 2 and some other fighting games. Fucking irritating as hell, but undeniably effective.
Anyway, Ice-T and Erick Sermon have strikes that are about as ordinary as they come. I'm not sure why they stand out as so bad - it might just be that I'm a big fan of the real life equivalents - but it's like a red badge of courage to use either of them in multiplayer. Much like using Kuma in Tekken.
I'm disappointed about the lack of inclusion (thus far) of either Biz Markie or any of Dipset. Where's Jim Jones, the kufi slapper, when you really need him?
Spoilers! No Biz, no Diplomats. The entire roster of real-life personalities is listed on the back. I've yet to hear Jim Jones so I'm indifferent to that idea right now, but I would agree that Cam'ron is absolutely deserving if only because A: he's the best arrogant-son-of-a-bitch personality I think I've ever heard in rap music, and B: he dresses so well. |
