GameSpy: It's become easy to access the Xbox and modify character data in games. I know you hate the nudity hacks, but how do you feel about the non-nude character graphics changes for DOA3?

Itagaki: First of all I think that those hackers should spend their time on something more productive. I'm not talking about a rights issue or an OS issue or whatever, but if they have time to hack into something that other people have made, why don't they make something of their own? The creators of games, I think, all feel the same way.

GameSpy: In the U.S. PC gaming scene, there's a tradition of modding games -- modifying them with new content. Developers even support that intentionally -- like id, which makes DOOM. They want its games to be modified by the fans. How do you feel about that perspective?

Itagaki: Of course the creators of DOOM and Half-Life -- that was their intention. That's how they want the users to enjoy playing their game, and I have no problem with that.

GameSpy: Would you ever consider sanctioning that kind of behavior with your own games?

Itagaki: Sure, but that's when I quit my job. That's how much I dislike the idea.
