- Race condition during join imprisons player in spec and requires restart: the easiest way to reproduce is to join a full server at map load (when the teams are filling), and rapidly click on the door with more players. When someone finally joins the smaller team, there's a reasonable chance (better than one in ten) of being locked into primary map view and unable to revisit team selection.
- Autobalance has game-breaking failure modes. A two-player deficit should not last more than 3-5 seconds. A deficit of more than two players should be rectified instantly. By including an autobalancer, they've absolved players of responsibility for bad teams; do it right or take it out. And, while I'm pointing out the obvious, new players entering an even-numbered match should be forced onto the losing team.
- A player's death animation sometimes plays in the center of the map. Obvious on 2fort, where you see him from the knees up in the center of the bridge. Seems like one instance of a more general "forgot position" bug; here is an apparitional razorback:
- Lots of team color glitches related to rendering the colors too late. Most obvious is the corpse left over after a team switch suicide; "autobalance plus kill cam" is another common source.
- Fetching from a slow web server (motd, backpack) should not hang the controls and sound.
- Neither should changing video options, though maybe I'm asking too much here. At least mute the sound that you're about to loop for the next two minutes, and maybe warn the player about the impending consequences of an all-volunteer programming team.
- I'm granting a pass on warping and hitbox fuckups, but it should be easy for VAC to heuristically detect intentional lagging. So do that.
- Alt-tab. Jesus Christ.
- I appreciate that 32 players is not "supported" but that is no reason to sabotage the scoreboard layout with whitespace. On the subject of whitespace, maybe use some of it for the default locations of ping & fps meters, instead of overlaying HUD contents.
