It is really difficult to talk about this game in terms of anything but previous Final Fantasies. I can't imagine what it would be like to play this without total FF fluency. I mean ffs you get to pilot a Magitek Armor at one point and it appears to serve no purpose EXCEPT patting the FF6 crowd on the head.
Let's talk about the ostensible big bad.
LOL design. Jesus what a number they did on this guy's outfit. I spot pope, sheikh, president, televangelist, slimeball executive, car salesman fuuuuu~ why does he look so familiar.
oh. Except Balder is more bosser.
I've gotten to the point in the game where all the levellan and weapon enhancing happens, but it's frustratingly slow. It's not at all like FF8-FFx2, all of which were fairly resource-flush. Enhancement items, weapons, healing items - everything in short supply, and Gil is a fuckin joke. The effective resource cap is unquestionably part of the game's management of character development: thou shalt not be overpoweringly beefy. I resent this very much as being overpoweringly beefy has been my traditional FF pleasure for lo these many years - throw that shit right out the window, they mean to make you work for every fight here. |
