Fun game! Very pretty too, but i guess everyone knew that. It doesn't do physics-based weaponry or tremendous interactive storytelling or any of that shit, and it doesn't really need to because it's really just about a solid campaign with tons and tons of scripted little things that immerse you and make you have fun! The beginning is Half Life! You have a flashlight, and you can't use it while using a gun, because then you'd just put the light on monsters and shoot them, now you sweep your light around and oh fuck a zombie in your face so you sort of beat him to a pulp with the flashlight and then pull out the shotgun because behind you there's this imp, and he's got a fireball casting freaky shadows and red light everywhere.

The entire game seems extremely aware of how great it is at lighting stuff, so it just seems to focus on making shadows and darkness work on scaring you. They also picked a perfect location and style for normal mapping: bloody meat and super-advanced pipes both look great when bumped. The weapons are pretty much all reinventions of old doom-guns, but they feel punchy and you'll like the shotgun SUPER-GOOD please. And lots of different monsters too! Baby with wings! Cthulhu with rocket launcher fists! SKELETON GUY. Backflip Zombie! Not to mention the almighty hound-dog. Gun-zombies are actually incredibly boring to fight because they just keep shooting at despite you pouring bullets into them, animation unaffected. They are also too human like in how they act.

Also you can listen to audio conversations you pick up (HOOAH!) and they're about psychiatrists and how they apparently got bitten by their own patients because mars drove them veronica, ha ha! And guess what, scientists are evil. This entire oxymoronic industry must be driven by some unholy unity of tech-geeks and hyperluddite writers.
