Definitely one of the better XBox games I've played lately. I like how it's completely different from Tekken and Soul Calibur (the only other fighting series I really played to any degree), at least initially, in that every fight on normal still feels like a challenge, and you can't just button mash your way through the early fights. I can't count the number of fights I've had where I'm hanging on by a few life bars and trying desperately to flip the situation with a grapple only to be denied. I'm starting to get to the point where I'm skilled enough in the fighting system to not run into that though, so maybe that's just my first impression.

While I'm at it, I've got a complaint I forgot to include in my review: why did they make Erick Sermon and Ice-T such goddamn wusses?! E-Double is one of the few holdouts from the early 90s New York rap scene still making listenable music, Ice-T's got so much pimp game that he can just point at a bitch and demand that she suck the skin right off his dick and she'd be all like SURE WHY NOT because it's not possible that she could have any other response. So naturally they're completely unfuckingplayable due to having weak stats a poor moveset. Then they give the most whigged out of whiggers, Crazy Legs, all the tricky-timing attacks that serve to make him almost unbeatable. I ain't feeling that! You've got about twenty or so fake characters, many who lack any kind of flava whatsoever - why not make them the punks, perpetrators and pussies instead?

Are you talking about in story mode, or in battle mode? I'm only about halfway through story mode, but I found Ice-T pretty tough (one of the earliest characters to really start blocking and countering regularly) and Crazy Legs ridiculously easy, so maybe it depends on your fighting technique? Or does Crazy Legs return at some later point in a Crazier incarnation?

I'm disappointed about the lack of inclusion (thus far) of either Biz Markie or any of Dipset. Where's Jim Jones, the kufi slapper, when you really need him?
