I guess I was expecting it to be to DMC3 what DMC3 was to DMC1. Instead it's not even up to the standards of DMC3, or 4 for that matter.
It's more God of War really really trying to trick you into thinking it's a spiritual Devil May Cry game. A fast weak attack, a slow strong attack, and a dodge. Ten million overly complex combos only a fighting game fan would care about. Just hit buttons. Occasionally you'll have to dodge before you hit buttons.
Cutscenes drag on way too long and aren't that great. I wanted to skip most of them. DMC3 would spend 10 seconds on exposition per scene TOPS and usually in the middle of a ridiculous fight. Here there's a bad Joe Pesci laying out plot points for 5 minutes straight while falling down and pissing everywhere like an awful Metal Gear game.
The cool looking attacks are all canned moves. DMC4 as Nero the entire game with cooler looking auto grab moves =( |
