They lied. I think all of us knew it. WOW they built a fab on another fault line and OH GEE the one that made RAM collapsed into the unholy abyss once again. RAM is gonna be tough to find this Christmas! Let's pay through our noses for one of the most basic components of computer technology.
The front page of the lawsuit's website, http://www.dramantitrustsettlement.com, doesn't even list who the fuckers were. Go ahead and take away from this that they are all thieving and greasy. The entire industry is populated by cash-hungry, desperate losers.
I got a check for $34.95. They were going to give you 11% of what you could prove you purchased during the time period, 1999-2002. From the site:
THIS CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT AND SETTLEMENTS WITH DEFENDANTS MAY AFFECT PERSONS OR ENTITIES WHO DIRECTLY PURCHASED DRAM (DYNAMIC RANDOM ACCESS MEMORY) IN THE UNITED STATES FROM THE DEFENDANTS DURING THE PERIOD OF APRIL 1, 1999 THROUGH JUNE 30, 2002
Well, we have a very specific date. RAM stopped being a fucking ripoff on July 1st, 2003. Whew! I don't have any receipts from 1999, I don't edit the Wikipedia as a hobby. I made up a number that sounded good, with the knowledge that if they wanted proof I'd be no worse off than I was before.
I'll probably buy a video game with the money. I hate myself. I'd say that I'd much rather pirate hardware than software, except that pirating hardware kind of means burglary, and I like to stay in at night when I come home from work.
