I wanted to become an EMT to play god with peoples lives and also to steal stuff from the homes of suicide victims. Every call had the potential to be like a thrilling shopping spree at Best Buy or, depending on taste/income a disappointing trip to K-mart. Either way, i was never going to have to buy shampoo again.
I had a few very serious concerns getting in the way of my dream of withholding care to minorities and dead guy grab bag. What if my partner in crime didn't actually want to commit any crimes? i'd be stuck doing my job for the rest of my life, a nightmare scenario because in all honesty I do not enjoy helping people. I was also worried tv & movies had created an exaggerated view on the number of suicides among young men, much like the skewed view on the amount of sombrero wearing and siesta taking that was going on in Mexico (in reality they only very rarely combine).
What if young guys weren't really dying off that often, because it's awesome to be young and male? What if the STOP Teen Suicide lobby was much more bloated and powerful than I thought and i'm stuck picking through beanie babies and collectible plates trying to find something to make the trip worthwhile?
