Yakuza 3 starts off well enough where you pick which car you want to drive. Like in the previous three Yakuza games (Yakuza, Yakuza 2 and Yakuza 0) you cannot yet pick the fastest car and you cannot yet floor it in the beginning of the game. Instead you have to settle for a mixed bag of medium paced Japanese cars, and the pedal can only be applied 70% to the floor. Still, what a rush to speed down the streets of Neo-Edo, going 70% slower than the fastest car, but still fast enough to feel like a true Yakuza (immersion). Using an overworld map, you pick which dungeons to race next, and buy car potions from crazy shop merchants. Random encounter races slow your progress, but raise your skill numbers higher, which become important later, so that part of the design is a wash. Finally the end game involves jumping your car over and on top of various enemies while shooting enemies (but never shooting the enemies you're jumping on) and exploring a rich cut scene to find out the location of the next enemy. To race!
