Realtime combat generally in RPGs is garbage without solid action foundations, and this is no exception. I like how they came up with a less interesting version of FF12's gambits and somehow exaggerated its biggest mistake (making basic functionality progression/levelling dependent). I may go back to the witcher and appreciate it more, now, since while it is similarly crappy combat they only make you control one primary and they bothered to animate combat in a way that makes an effort at pretending things are actually colliding. It's not that I object to sprays of blood, I just wish they weren't there to hide the complete absence of real interaction. It's an evolved version of KOTOR' "backflipping with a lightsaber by yourself in order to damage the enemy doing similar things (by himself) and standing a few feet away. That's not good enough, and sometimes it even feels like they intentionally modeled lag just to piss me off.

Verdict: going back to Demon's Souls to restore my faith in creativity in the genre, although I'll probably keep going at least until the fucking game gives me my dlc items. And then after that, because I'm a glutton for punishment.
