So I preordered Gratuitous Space Battles off this thing because taking some survey (i.e. clicking "I don't use Impulse" on 20 questions) got me 20% off.
What a fucking mess.
Here's what should happen when ordering a digitally distributed game: I enter my payment info, I download the game.
Here's what Impulse thinks should happen: Enter payment info, wait for confirmation email, go to stardock website, select option to have your serial numbers sent to you, wait for email, copy serial number from email, choose "register serial number" button in Impulse, enter serial number, download game.
And through some totally ridiculous hiccup I got to add another half dozen steps to this process! I had some 2 year old account with Stardock when I registered my (retail purchased ($3) copy of Galactic Civilizations 2. Because I entered my primary email address into the order form instead of the one that my Impulse account was registered under the entire thing fucked up. I figured the address was just for the order form confirmation; nowhere did it say it had to be the same as your Impulse account email. I figured that would be sort of automatic considering I was filling this form out inside my logged in Impulse browser.
So I get an order confirmation at my primary address, but nothing shows up in my Impulse account games list, just my old copy of Gal Civ 2. The next step was sending an email to their sales department. The step after that was waiting 2 business days for a reply, which was just sending me to their account transfer page to enter my old Impulse address and what I wanted it changed to. After that it was waiting for a confirmation email on both accounts to confirm each of them. Doing that cleared Gal Civ 2 off my games list. I then had to go back to the page, have them resend my serial numbers to my email, wait for the email, copy the serial number, and enter it into Impulse so I could finally download the fucking beta.
Installed! Click "run". Instant black screen. Nothing.
