I have drifted up with music and down with movies/TV by Zsenitan 09/05/2009, 1:07pm PDT Now I won't download anything less than 320/VBR mp3, and preferably flac, unless it's something painfully rare. But this change occurred due to external pressure: I got real speakers with a bulletproof woofer, it changed my whole perspective on shit. But TV/movies - I don't give a shit about them for the most part. Unless I liked them prior to downloading them, I'll be satisfied with nearly any quality. Fortunately animu fansubbers keep getting better and better at reducing file size without losing quality - even shitty encodes today are miles better than the best encodes put out in 2005, and only two thirds as big. When I really like something I'll put it on a watchlist for higher quality encodes, but I'm more likely to just buy it at that point. I want to say something about the increasing importance of networking in securing high quality stolen anything, but all my examples have to do with disco, jazz fusion, and yaoi. :( Maybe it's different if you're not involved in specialty markets.
