It's basically a series of random encounters roughly based in iraq. I guess the focus is supposed to be the crazy main character's personality, but his entire character boils down to: "put bomb suit on. walk towards bomb".
I was willing to ignore the complete disregard towards anything remotely resembling the way the military operates - a "realistic" movie would be the most boring fawking thing in the world. I tried to think of it as a science fiction movie set on a desert planet as a allegory to the iraq war. And, I disregarded the stupid shit like a full-bird colonel that for some reason was out on a mission and told some soldier to shoot the wounded iraqi, as well as the other random "message" stuff that seemed inserted for no reason at all.
But it didn't help. I kept waiting for the plot to show up.
It's really a supremely uninteresting movie. Technically pretty well put together, with some good moments. Maybe if it was a series of 15 minute shorts that was released on the web I'd like it. As a movie, it's pretty terrible.
I'm agreeing with everything L_K said :(
Also, whoever hired Ben Thomas, "Former SEAL, and Blackwater OPERATOR 8(" as the military advisor for this movie should be FUCKING FIRED. |
