The whole time I'm reading that I'm saying "and Ryu", and then the article points out that two of the world's top three use Ryu, and I was justified. Here's why both Sagat and Ryu have such a leg up (pun!) -- as mentioned in the article Sagat can HK into Ultra, and Ryu can also do this with a dragon punch. I'd argue the dragon punch into Ultra is even worse because I think it's got higher priority than the HK.
This wasn't such a concern in the early days as Ryu's DP into Ultra a slightly tricky move to think up and execute, but certainly not once you've seen it in action and then just practiced a bit. Three months after release every single Ryu played can do this, and it means half your hitpoints if you make the mistake of jumping into the air when Ryu has an Ultra ready. Hard habit to break, friends! |
