If the scary dead people are in the TV,
That sounds familiar.
I thought the whole thing was about hearing the dead in the background (white noise) of audio recordings? That would have been just a tad less retarded, but they actually come from the TV? Jesus.
I thought The Ring to have a spooky concept but flawed execution (it had its moments), and would love to have it done right, but enough with the knockoffs already. I don't care if White Noise has nothing to do with it other than the ghosts in TV, just enough with The Ring (sequel coming soon. I've heard the Japanese sequels were shit, though Para-medic would disagree).
Please don't tell me the TV ghosts want Keaton to find their killer. That's been a central theme to ghost stories for ages, but aside from pointless infighting, nothing kills a horror movie for me more than finding out that the ghosts just want JUSTICE AND LOVE, which is partially what killed Stir of Echoes (just recently saw) for me. You had a good opening (ignoring the "wacky" friend and Kevin's trying too hard acting) with the bloody quickcut visions and the red lights telling you that something was wrong with the babysitter (even though they fucked up that scene a little by flashing the screen red in shots showing Kevin Bacon even though it was supposed to be from his eyes), but then it goes to shit. The red light scene comes to an anticlimatic end when we find out the babysitter is just the ghost's sister, and everything else afterwards is spelled out to you and made obvious (fucking Officer Obvious policeman. "He's seeing ghosts". NO SHIT!).
The shittiness of White Noise could be seen in the commercials. They made it look more like coming attractions for next week's Ghost Hunters rather than a movie. Hmmm....they're not really showing any of the actual movie, just captions and SKAREE voices. Maybe there's a reason for this? What bits we do see is all Michael Keaton sitting at a computer tinkering with sound. Great, I get to watch a music/film/AV student work for 90 minutes. The fact that they already tried to make half a movie with this, Blair Witch "type the commands BACKWARDS!" 2, is another red flag. Making an entire movie out of this concept could potentially result in something twice as bad.
