20 ranked losses in a row. (I had already removed a button here for diagnosis). I was happy to be done with SFIV forever and I didn't really like the Hori EX2 anyway. But then immediately after Black Sunday, Capcom announced the Championship patch, which I wanted to try. Due to SFIV's surprise popularity, it's impossible to buy fight stick in a store or online right now. Solder: GO!
THE PROBLEM: a snapped PCB, plus several of the buttons were now jammed. The START and RB buttons also came off their PCB, but that's less of an issue. I decided to replace the buttons and toss the PCB entirely as they are just straight connections and repairing PCB seems beyond me. I'd replace the buttons with Sanwa arcade buttons, turning this repair job into an upgrade as well, which makes me feel like slightly less of a giant loser.
I couldn't find the wires I used for the MAME cab. Maybe lost in a move. I persevered with this tiny thread-like wire I had instead. It snapped constantly.
At one point I sliced the C26 resistor right off the main PCB while wrestling with the solder. Attention people who Googled here: you don't need the C26 resistor! Carry on without it! This was the toughest part as I couldn't use wires for this Sanwa button. I had to bend and trim the Sanwa connectors to fit into these little holes on the main PCB. Mistakes were made!
Good as new! It's hard to tell there was any work done on it. I left the red Hori button on there because I couldn't desolder it and get it off the fucking PCB, plus it seems to work well enough. I will say that I do much prefer the Sanwa buttons now that I have such a close comparison opportunity. I was very skeptical at the beginning, but am pleased with the outcome. The start button is a cherry microswitch I had left over from the MAME cab. I just decided to never press RB again rather than do anymore work on this piece of shit.
All that to get... GP. |
