I had this cockatiel who was obsessed with electronics, particularly my 28.8 modem. he didn't imitate it exactly, for him, it was all about the triumphant "beeee!" of success.

[computer: making touchtone noises]
[perrin: frantically excited cockatiel meeping]

[computer: ringing]
[perrin: pre-emptive mournful 'beeee!']

[computer: high-pitched pulsing 'beeee!']
[perrin: continuing, repetitive 'beeee!' 'beeee!' 'beeee!']

[computer: hissing grinding noise]
[perrin: nigh identical hissing grinding noise, with occasional, sated 'beee!']

then he would congratulate himself. "good bird," he would say.

of course the phone sounds like a dial-up modem. so he would 'beeee' at the phone. and make short beeps with the microwave buttons.
all of his effort to mimic these sounds was not to be wasted even when wholly inappropriate. random objects proved inspiring. for example this is perrin beeping his microwave beep at a block of havarti:



though if he got overexcited, he would also 'beeee' at the microwave buttons.

back in the day I actually found THE modem sound on the Findsounds.com to play for him every now and again. a connoisseur of the authentic, he never got as excited as he used to.
