| I think time is my problem with it, and why I consider the Burnout pay DLC to be a fair value (even though it's way stupider). It at least seems like Criterion did some development after the fact and then hoped you would compensate them for that time spent. A multiplayer mode two weeks after launch is like the ridiculous Skate 2 add-on of "better camera angles and colour filters for saved replays" (that's not a joke). You know that could've made it into the finished $60 package, but they wanted an extra $5. And I can't stress enough that I'm pro-DLC, despite sounding like a DLC retard. I don't even care about unlocking stuff from the disc when it's immaterial items like extra characters or costumes. Those I group with "Limited Edition" packages. Pay the extra $10 to get your cloth map or your figurine or something else that isn't important to the game... But a multiplayer mode! I'm annoyed mostly because of course it's worth it.
I used to have a similar complaint about CD singles back when record companies still existed. CD singles would have a single from the CD album, plus one or two "b-sides", and unlike singles of our parents age, these "singles" cost like HALF of the full album price, if you were lucky. Vinyl singles were bought in lieu of albums, or as a cheap tester. CD singles were only bought by hardcore fans of the band to get the one or two extra tracks, because no one else is paying $9 for the video song. It was a tax on being a fan, and it made me so annoyed. This is what multiplayer DLC feels like. It's not giving me more of the same, it's just a tax for liking the game and wanting to get the most out of it. This argument is more emotion than logic at this point. Let me live with it for a while and refine it. |
