I'd better not see Diablo 2 on any of these. *shakes fist*
For my money, Age of Empires III is still the best RTS game of all time. DOW patch version 1.2 is maybe number 2. Other games: I still love Gal Civ 2 SO MUCH -- I should maybe post the screenshots of my pritty pritty spaceships. I have no imagination, so they're all Klingon or Federation ships but I have about 50 of them. Fallout 3 makes the list, and Unreal Tournament 2004 with the co-op mode where you fight waves of critters. Left 4 Dead is the only game my sister-in-law will play with us which is pretty cool. We've discussed this before, but I loved Diablo and hated Diablo 2, so just Diablo gets on here. Baldur's Gate and BG II were totally sweet (once the 50 game-killing bugs in BG were patched). I loved that I could wander into the level 5 zone at level 2 if I wanted. It was suicide but it at least gave me the impression that it wasn't 100% on rails. I couldn't get into being the Nameless, which is obviously a personal failing of some kind. Wasteland was the funnest game ever when I was in middle school, and it spawned the Fallouts so hooray! And, I hate to say it, but this game rules: http://droidquest.com/. That guy re-made Robot Odyssey. If you like logic puzzles and ESPECIALLY if you already happen to have a computer architecture text book, that game is THE BEST. Hey, you know what's the best flight simulater I ever played? Janes Fighter Anthology. Simultaneously realistic (in some ways, more so than any other I'd encountered) and yet easier to play than any other game of its type. I didn't need to go to flight school and try to convince myself I was having fun to play that. The original Madden Football was hilarious, and the only football game I ever played an entire season with a full complement of total made-up teams. BattleMechs, with Battlemaster as their QB. HeavenlyHost with Jesus as QB, Genii with Einstein as QB and Heisenberg as all 4 wideouts, stuff like that. Good times. I had a team of historical figures. Hitler was my running back. My brother: "I totally hate that guy!" [Obligatory "still better than Travis Henry" or other actual RB joke here.] And of course Doom. DOOOOOOOOOM. We played and modded the shit out of that game in college. And Aliens TC was terrific too.
