Jamal is shown to be relentless and a survivor, right from the beginning. Watching his mom murdered, jumping in shit for an autograph, and living in a garbage dump. All part of growing up in an India slum. People who stab themselves with pins for a rupee are probably going to be pretty good at getting tortured for 10 million rupees.
