Your check is a fraud. The bank will take that $2500 back this week.
The crack addict forged a check from some third party for $2,500 and then cons you into depositing it into your account. The first thing that happens is that your bank contacts the third party's bank to make sure the third party has enough money to cover the check. They did, so your banks move the money to your account for now ON THE ASSUMPTION that the check is valid. This is why you saw the check clear on Saturday. However, in the next day or two your bank will mail the actual physical check to that third party bank, at which time the third party bank will determine that it is a bad check. You may not even have that long depending on how frequently the third party victim checks his balance and discovers the fraud. When the fraud is discovered your bank will take the money back out of your account and return it to the rightful owner. The bad news is that you will be hit with some processing fees because the bank holds you responsible for depositing bad checks. The good news is that you haven't already paid your trusted crack buddy "his" money and you haven't already bought a TV, so returning the $2500 itself won't be much of a hassle. In the meantime, I advise you to take a screenshot of your bank balance as it is now and keep it as a hidden memento of the day(s) you were the wealthiest man in Shacktown. (Glimmer of hope: MAYBE the third party bank is too stupid to discover the forgery and MAYBE the rightful owner of the money is too stupid or intimidated to report the fraud.)
