Ashley was the exact comparison I was making
It's the point of the AI companion and it was the point of Ashley, having a story driven device to end your game. What really got me pissed about the AI was in the second mission, watching the bitch get her head chainsawed off(actually the camera cut away. GAY!) from being attached to my hip. Why is that even happening? Why doesn't she just have magic "I'm a woman" dodges? Why is she even eligible for insta-death? There is just no reason to make the insta-death enemies this much more difficult and annoying. If there is one thing that made going through RE4 a chore it's running away from insta-death enemies. It eventually added tension to the game and increased the difficulty as you got more used to them. Though having an AI partner who is only ever going to be directly behind your shoulder(like Ashely) vulnerable to those attacks is fucking absurd. You're going to have to learn how to maneuver yourself to keep her out of danger since she's always going to be right next to you, and never function independently except for special sequences. Essentially you're twice as vulnerable to all attacks, since your character is twice as big. You've still got to baby sit, this means not standing still where you're okay because it's impossible to know if she is about to be attacked, since she's probably standing around like a dope in your blind spot. You've got twice the inventory management because even in a pitched battle you're going to want to read the ammo type and press X or B to give it to the right person, and good luck using that fucking inventory system during a fight. You've got half the ammo, which is just really awful, the ammo drops seem just as irregular in RE4 and additionally they either decay or the AI companion picks them up when you're not looking. They should just make items pick up when you walk over them and have pooled ammo, this wouldn't be a problem since the AI is so remiss to actually fire her gun. I really haven't played it much, but it's just motherfucking baffling. No co-op game has ever been better with a bot companion than a real person, and a major amount of them are horrible with bots. I really hope they overhaul the fuck out of this game, because judging from the demo(which is inherently unfair and evil, whatever) it's a big stinking pile of shit. Hopefully the demo levels represent the points where the game really busts your balls and the rest of it is pretty chill, like in RE4. Though I still don't need this tacked on co-op shit, I imagine the game is too long to play with a friend, and I know it's way too fucking long to play with a bot companion constantly getting her head chopped off.
