Me, Jso, Btren and Kobuh all played through No Mercy and Death Toll just now. We took a snack break a couple maps into Death Toll, thanks to the fact that it lets you just pick whatever map in whatever campaign you want, so we could continue right where we left off. We only wiped a couple times, but holy shit the end of No Mercy is hard, especially when you don't know what to do. We figured out the finale the hard way. We did the whole zombie rush and killed two tanks, then the helicopter showed up, and tons of zombies started swarming in, so we were like, okay we'll tear through these zombies and get to the chopper. Then another tank, two hunters, a smoker and a boomer and about a hundred zombies all at once. Only then did we realize we should probably just head for the escape instead of trying to clear all the zombies, because I don't think you're supposed to do that at that point, you're just supposed to run. Everyone got pinned down, as most of the zombies went for them, so I ran for the helicopter and made it out. DEDICATED TO THE MEMORIES OF JSO, BTREN AND KOBA. We lawled, but then I was confused as fuck to see that the "end credits" section reported our difficulty as normal, when we had it set to advanced from the beginning, the lobby said "advanced" as the difficulty, and when I hit tab once in the campaign it said "advanced." The beginning of the campaign did seem extremely easy, but probably because we memorized every single turn from the demo. Things got trickier once we got into the new territory but we stuck together and tore through the zombies. The second campaign worked even better as we knew a lot more about the game at that point, especially the COMPLETELY AWESOME ending which I think is definitely better than No Mercy. You do some running through the forest, and we got a little lost a couple times looking for where to go, but we made it through, there were a couple of wipes and a couple really desperate situations. I died once and revived at the next map, then Jso died and was revived next map. We got to the end and there was a nice little lake house with the lockable doors and the destroyable rails and shit, and tanks coming at us, and we heard boomers, and we were using the shit out of voice comm yelling about boomers here and tank coming here. After the end of No Mercy, we figured the boat coming in would probably stop over at that dock to the side, so as soon as the boat would get close we should all run for the dock. Sure enough, after an EXTREMELY long finale full of zombies but us kicking ass and kiting both tanks and fuckin being SO FUCKING OPERATOR that one of us would have the tank chase us while the rest of us sprayed gunfire into the tank until it was dead and we took minimal damage, the boat horn went off and we were like I THINK IT'S COMING, and then we weren't sure if it was coming just yet or if it was getting close, but then I saw it pull right up and we were all like GET TO THE DOCK and started running. I got a gas can on the dock and threw it down back towards the land, but there were so many zombies and the rest of the friendlies that by that point a giant wave of people were covering it up. I ran onto the boat and thought if no one else made it at least I would, but then Brent and Kobachad ran onto the boat, and I saw Jso running down the dock with zombies like on every side, running down the dock, running at us in front of him, running alongside the dock, and bosses were all coming in and whatever. We were all spraying gunfire at the zombies, as Jso didn't look back running for the boat. I think I was having trouble seeing because a boomer threw up on me or something, I forgot, but it was pure chaos, and Jso finally jumped on the boat and it played the end cutscene, and it was so fucking awesome it was pretty much THE best cooperative game experience we've had in the past 20 years of coop games, and it wasn't some awesome experience we had on accident despite the game, or just a crazy happenstance of random shit that goes on just because there's other players allowed in the game with you. It was because the game was intentionally designed to be like this. That means that Valve completely figured out the exact part of cooperative games that are inherently exciting and put them into the game. Anyway I have to go to sleep now so I plan to finish the other two campaigns on advanced tomorrow, and then it will be time to start going after the campaigns on expert.
