A common topic of conversation at the Shmups! forums are deconstructing shmup reviews by mainstream reviewers who have something absofuckinglutely ingenius given to them to review, then continue-spam their way to the end and say, "this game is too short and easy. Modern gamerz are too hardcore for this crap. Who's up for some Halo?" Take it from me, if you're playing a shmup without attempting to get a high score/1cc, you're doing the equivalent of playing an RTS for the score alone. However, one common theme keeps emerging in these reviews and that is an absurd level of love for Ikaruga despite the fact that the reviewer doesn't even know how to play it properly. Twat Central's Ikaruga review epitomizes this perfectly both by printing a fucking wall of text about how shooting games are awful and how modern shooters are all about sitting in one spot and barely moving (a perfect recipie for a shitty score) before hagulahagulaing Ikaruga for such amazing features as the ability not to press the fire button and not to press the color change button. I don't know what it is about Ikaruga, but somehow the reviewers have figured out that if they say it's the most incredibly awesomest thing in the world, they can keep their "indie cred" while turning around and bashing games like Gradius V.
