Re: ICJ: stop reading ways to play the game and just play the game.

Play the game Dead Rising wants you to play, not the game you imagine you want to play.
In my defense, the game it seems to want me to play is one where I almost commit hate crimes against janitors, minorities and people with cell phones. I say "almost" because the right trigger so frustrates aiming that I honestly believe it was one of those meta-game features where the controls are intentionally reversed. But yeah, if this was all spelled out in the instruction manual I did not get from Gamestop (not me being a cheap-ass: the only copy around town was the used one from them) then that's on me.
At first you'll think Dead Rising has it ALL WRONG and it should be following conventions.
Yes! I did think that! I assumed that the missions and case files and plot and everything should be followed in the relatively low amount of time given. So you called this one.
We've got these conventions for a reason! Not that you won't get frustrated. You will. It's flawed. It's a flawed miracle, not a broken State of Emergency. I hated the game and nearly quit playing several times before calling it the #3 single player game ever.
I'll be writing my top ten in a list shortly so you can write yours and have it be better. Heads up!
Following other people's advice about finding weapons or how to deal with any problem in the game is a great way to take a shortcut through the fun. That's just reducing Dead Rising to brawler, at which point it's pretty mediocre and has save point issues.
Right on. It IS horribly unfinished - take for example, what I did last night: I knocked a bunch of cardboard boxes out of a corner of some mall store and found "Bill" hiding back there. I could not speak to Bill. I assume he activates later in the game and has some interesting shit to say. But Capcom, (taps on monitor) you have to account for the state of this "Bill" if I get to him before the scripting is ready for me. Or else you make it so that I can not knock down those cardboard boxes. That being said, right before I turned it off last night I did a scene where it got dark. That's why this game is so schizophrenic: I had been playing now in daylight and zombies are not nearly as creepy in daylight. It turned to 7:00 PM and HOLY SHIT. I left the mall and had a "mission" where I am trying to save this Josie from the horde, after her man got killed by those thugs. Suddenly the game goes from bug-ridden mess to all the shit we want in a zombie game. Like flipping a switch. Especially if you have white knight issues when it comes to chicks. So yeah, the game is ultimately fucking amazing and transcends its (many) flaws.
Also why don't you have an HD TV in that giant basement of yours?
Everytime I get ready, I end up putting another arcade game down there. ICJ
