Re: This review is a new games journalism nightmare. by GreenwichJ 06/24/2008, 5:08 PM Some of the cut-scenes are crap, merely filling out the ludicrous plot with loads of bad dialogue. Others (the more action-y ones) are fantastic and on a par with Hollywood. What sets this game out are the graphics, which are astonishing: very high definition and completely glitch-free. And the gameplay, which is tense and highly varied throughout. One minute you're tracking someone through a sandbox-style city, and another you're piloting some huge robot. I wouldn't necessarily tell you to buy a PS3 for it though. The PS3 is obviously intended for older users; why have a Blu-ray player unless you can connect it to the family's "big TV"? No point if you're a teenager confined to his bedroom.
HOW DID HE KNOW?
Re: This review is a new games journalism nightmare. by realsleep 06/24/2008, 9:40 PM I've considered buying a PS3 just for this game, so I understand where the reveiwer is coming from. The Metal Gear series is one of the best ever created, and those quirks and knowing winks to fans are what make it a great series.
HOW DID HE KNOW? Also, the implication that I should not only buy a Playstation 3, but some surround sound setup, just for a "pretentious art house" game is pretty insulting. I'll save my money for a game with good writers, but thanks for trying to fool me, you apparently think any reader just has too much money and needs to find a way to spend a bunch of it before it goes bad like fruit.
Like this game or not, what do think would happen if the cultural gabfest podcast took on videogames just once. This game more than any other would be fodder for a longer discussion.
HOW DID HE KNOW?
