Apparently there's some (SOME) confusion about what I meant by "overworld map"

Verdict: not bad! Much more like Duke Nukem 3D and much less like any of the Quakes than I remembered, which is definitely a good thing. I thought the overworld maps lent a sense of place and scale to the proceedings. They're like menus, but crazy and fun! Nothing saddens the little autistic gentleman in me like the death of maps - except maybe the death of scores. DOOM actually overlayed your scores from the previous level right on top of your map. Right away that makes it one of the best games ever. Platformers and RPGs used to be the map-lover's bread-and-butter.
