Re: Way better than Psi Ops

Also smashing that scale as a beared snake appears shirtless in the game. Oh my!
Sounds like a personal problem. I am pretty sure I am immune to the alleged sex appeal of military types of either gender. But you might want to have that checked out.
Also, I don't see where you're getting this whole 'no story = toy' logic from. Some of the best games I've played had little to no story.
For the last time (except probably not), I didn't say it was a bad thing. Just a difference. As in, there are games where you are playing them to get through a story and project yourself into the protagonist's shoes, and then there are games where the designers intentionally or unintentionally create more of an environment with rules and abilities, which you then fuck with for fun. GTA3 would be a perfect example of the intentional kind that works, Black and White would be a great example of an intentional example that sucks. Morrowind would be a game that tried to be both things but succeeded primarily in the toy area. Psi Ops was an uneven attempt that succeeded quite well overall in giving you place to fuck up rag dolls creatively. MGS3, on the other hand, is definitely a lot more of the former and a good amount of the latter. Some people enjoy or at least are reasonably interested in the storyline and it works for them. Fabio is allergic to Japan and thus incompatible with the game, and understandably so. I can't say I'm much of a fan either, but by no means do I find it a gamebreaker. The thing is, there are a whole batch of subtleties to the MG environment that I didn't become aware of until I was forced to by the restricted nature of the VR missions in MGS2 Substance. That creates levels of success in clearing a room quantifiable only to a junkie like myself, as opposed to okislashedhisthroatandthenitriedstickinghiminaclosetbutnowboredboredboredgonnabeatthegameinfirstpersonview. For instance.
I just played a crappy little trial of the thing, and it had a bit too many. Though crap and pictures to scroll through during them seems nice just not enough to keep me from getting bored. 1.) Loading into and out of each codec scene. 2.) They are all in Japanese 3.) They were sitting around figuring out their code names. 4.) "Naked Snake" 5.) "Now, Snake, go get your backpack!" Is that just the trial or what?
Well, the beginning is the beginning. Unlike the tanker in MGS2, it is the least fun part so far. Myself, it's like playing through a B movie. The overblown rhetoric, the absurd sharks-with-frickin-laserbeams situations, the hilarious concept of American soldiers, etc. Then again, I watched the entire Star Wars Christmas Special once. PROTIP: the backpack takes like two seconds to find, and is obviously just a means of introducing the tree climbing mechanic.
