Re: Slate game snobbery.

And yes, gaming obsessives, I know that a version of the Lost Levels made it into 1993's Super Mario All-Stars for the Super Nintendo. But that wasn't the Real Super Mario Bros. 2—that was a colorized Citizen Kane.
*SIGH* YES, gaming OBSESSIVES, I already know about the version of Lost Levels that made it into 1993's Super Mario All-Stars for the Super Nintendo but THAT version is not EVEN PURE enough for me, a person that does NOT obsess over video games. *SIGHHHHHHHHHHHH WITH CONTEMPT ALSO SUCKING HUSBAND'S DICK*
Seriously, what the hell was that about. I mean the All-Stars version changed the graphics etc., but probably it kept the stage designs the same, and that's what counts. But other than the stupid parts that article is totally right. In college I once watched a roommate's girlfriend work through the first few hours of that game--though she was familiar enough with games to have burned through Super Mario Bros. itself without too much trouble, she fell into every little trap laid for her by The Lost Levels. But she remained enthusiastic, and the tricks just kept getting cleverer--it was like watching somebody's old vaudeville-performer grandpa put on a magic show for a delighted child, in videogame form. I never had more fun watching somebody else play.
